The Foundation is proud to be a partner of the Scheidel Scholarship Programs based in Jacksonville, Florida. These programs are supported by two endowments donated by Mr. and Mrs. Scheidel to the University of North Florida and Florida State College at Jacksonville. Although the Foundation does not provide direct financial or administrative support for these scholarships, we have funded a case worker position at FSCJ to actively monitor student achievement and provide additional support and guidance as necessary in order to increase retention rates.

There are currently on average more than 80 Jacksonville-area students attending either the University of North Florida or Florida State College at Jacksonville annually.

The Scheidel Scholarship is available to residents or high school graduates of selected local organizations within the Jacksonville community. Some organizations include: Beaches Habitat for Humanity, Habitat St. Johns, PACE Center for Girls, The Foundation Academy, and Children’s Home Society.

The scholarship was created to provide flexibility for each student. Students focused on a particular technical career path can obtain vocational certificates at FSCJ while others can work towards their Associate’s degree at FSCJ and then transfer to UNF to complete their Bachelor’s degree. Attending UNF directly for a four-year bachelor’s degree is another route student’s take.

The scholarship is open to homeowners of Beaches Habitat for Humanity, as well as their children until the age of 24. All UNF Scheidel Scholars also receive a laptop as they enter their first semester.
